Our Scouts spent Summer Camp 2022 on the South Coast at Braggers Wood Camping and Activity Centre in Dorset.

Days 1 and 2 were spent learning survival skills. The Scouts built an incredible shelter and bivouacked overnight in their construction to complete part of their Challenge Badge.

They learnt techniques to cut and split wood, fire lighting skills and learnt how to react in emergency situations and sending for SOS help using different methods. For dinner they cooked their meals on the fire with potatoes, corn on the Cob, pork, fish and chicken

Day 3 was spent Horse Riding through the New Forest as well as some hiking which led to quite an appetite what was taken care of by a BBQ cooked by the Scouts.

Day 4 – Watersports at Sandbanks

We put on our wetsuits, split into groups and spent our day rotating doing wind surfing, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding.

After a long day we went to the beach and had fish and chips for dinner.

Day 5 – Visiting Poole and Brownsea Island

We took the ferry to Brownsea Island. Our Patrols completed their Naturalist activity badge, looking at the wildlife and the actions being taken on the Island to improve it.

Some of us were fortunate enough to see a red squirrel.

We invested our new members into the Scouting movement at the place where it all started 115 years ago.

We returned to Poole Harbour and did some crabbing.

Day 6 – Coasteering

We travelled near Swanage to take part in coasteering.

We donned our wetsuits and walked to the coast. We climbed, slid, jumped and swam. Some of the jumps were very high and all the Scouts took part and did their best.

Day 7 – The long trip home. After a great week away doing some fantastic activities we headed home tired and ready for our own beds.
